OVER the past weeks, the eyes of the world have been centred on the devastation in Haiti following the earthquake.
The people of Malton, Norton and surrounding villages have responded generously to helping Save The Children to get urgent help to stricken families and children.
Immediately the desperate needs of the area became known, Malton and Norton Music Theatre set up a bucket collection, manned by Save The Children, during its performances of the Aladdin pantomime, resulting in an amazing £791. A further most generous donation of £211.50 has also been raised by the ladies of Whitby Community Choir.
In addition, the students of Norton College, who have generously supported Save The Children for many years, organised collections within the college which raised £162.93. A further £195 was raised from another group eager to respond to the desperate need and a further donation of £42.05 has just been received.
The generosity of all these people raised an outstanding £1,403.49, which will be used to supply urgently needed help and support to the shattered communities of Haiti. Thank you to everyone on behalf of Save The Children.
It is not too late to make a donation to the Haiti Appeal through our treasurer, Eric Wing on 01653 694992.
