Godfrey Bloom MEP (Letters, January 13) should realise that he is a citizen of the UK and, as such, is subject to the laws of this country, like it or not.
Of the 61 million or so who live here, about 61 million have never heard of him: some, like myself. might share his affront. He, like everyone else, is “just-another-human-being” as far as the police are concerned.
Anyone who happens to be a “client” for a spot-check and starts to play the “I-am-a-pompously-very-important-person” card will receive very short shrift from the police (legally), the interview could take quite a long time.
If he does not like this law (lots of support), he is in the right place to have it changed in a proper manner.
Since the EU dictates much of the law of this country he should organise a Bill in the EU Parliament and have it scrapped by dictat. If he did, it might go some little way to justify the cost of the free-loading MEPs.
