By Reader's letter
WE are a group of ramblers that walk a lot around the villages in the Ryedale area.
Burythorpe is the only one where we’ve felt this unwelcoming feeling. We would like to know why.
Westow, Leavening and Kirkham are all so very friendly, as areWelburn, Bulmer, Castle Howard and Thixendale, but Burythorpe stands out like a sore thumb. Time for this village to move into the 21st century.
Why is Burythorpe such a hostile village? The natives are so unfriendly and do not welcome newcomers or visitors.
My family and friends have often walked through the village when we’ve been on our rambling walks.
We have yet to meet a friendly native. People who have moved here are always friendly and will stop to talk to us. They also say they feel that they shouldn’t be here.
Even the local pub doesn’t make you welcome so when all over the country on July 19 people are having street parties and getting together and talking to each other, having fun and making new friends, Burythorpe will not be.
I would like your paper to print this letter and see if there are any other villages in the Ryedale area that are more hostile than Burythorpe. I can’t think of any, and we have rambled through most of them.
