I WAS not surprised by Lionel Beck’s letter (Voting shame, June 24) at all.
It is a tactic of the anti-BNP brigade to say “well only X per cent voted” when the BNP win seats or poll better than expected, to try to play down the significance of the result.
I suspect that Lionel wrote the letter because he is very bitter about seeing the Labour Party being beaten by the BNP in Norton.
Lionel’s previous letter (Reasons why not to vote for BNP, March 26) also seems to have been completely ignored by voters at his party’s expense, which will have rubbed salt in the wound!
So yes, Lionel, maybe only 3.4 per cent of the Norton electorate voted for the BNP (if you pointlessly include those who didn’t even vote), but therefore only 2.7 per cent voted for the Labour Party.
Quite embarrassing for a party which is governing the country.
