THANK you for announcing the opening of a temporary cafe at Norton Library in the Gazette & Herald, August 12, but can I clarify a point.

The article gives the impression that the library’s future is secured now that it has been “given community status by the county council”.

In fact, the library is still planned to close in 2017 unless the volunteers can produce a credible business plan to to turn it into a library/community hub. A small group have started work on the plan, but it will require a major effort by more local people if it is to succeed.

The temporary cafe, along with a sewing group, is our first initiative to demonstrate the scope for more community initiatives on the library site.

We are most grateful to the Camphill Trust and the Kingfisher Cafe for their help, but we will need more help and more volunteers if we are to succeed.

Anyone interested in getting involved can leave their contact details at the library or cafe during library opening hours.
