I have been made aware of both the recent battle of letters in your newspaper between the organisers of the Galtres Festival and some of the traders affected by the festival’s bankruptcy last year.

There now appears to be a push by some traders to get people to boycott Duncombe Park as a whole.

The International Centre for Birds of Prey (ICBP) is located in Duncombe Park. We are tenants of the Helmsley Estate and have no connection with the Galtres Festival; it is merely held near our site.

The ICBP is one of the world’s oldest raptor conservation organisations and we are funded solely by income from our visitors. This attempt to get people not to visit Duncombe Park will harm us.

It seems we are being innocently caught up in this backlash against the Galtres Festival. I sympathise greatly with the traders who suffered so badly in 2014.

However, trying to stop people visiting Duncombe Park as a whole is not only morally wrong, but is involving me and others in a battle we are not associated with.
