Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but when democratically elected to public office you must be able to keep your personal views to yourself, as you are in a position to cause real damage, upset and anger to families which not even Tommy Woodward has the right to do.

He should have been brought to account by Ryedale planning committee some years ago. I attended a planning committtee when, in front of a full room of 80 people, Councillor Woodward said that although he would like to support the renewable energy application, but he would not be doing so because the applicants supported foxhunting.

He has also been known to object to a planning application for a local broiler chicken farm, not because of planning law but because he personally objects to this kind of farming.

It is this behaviour from a man who cannot keep his prejudices under control that undermines the good work and credibility of the whole planning committee, leaving applicants frustrated and confused.

Councillor Woodward should resign, be sacked, or at least be sent on a re-training course on his resposibilities as a councillor.
