DURING a holiday to Yorkshire, in September, we crossed back over the moors and went to Pickering and then to Malton – a place I wanted to visit, not only because we needed supplies for our stay in Yorkshire, but because I wanted to look around.

Malton has some historic fine old buildings in York stone and red brick, which makes for a wonderful mix. I wanted to take photos of our trip and also enjoy a meal in Malton and explore the surrounding area.

But, instead, we had to return to our holiday cottage and never saw anything of Malton at all because when we tried to park (we chose the Market Street car park) on the hill in Market Street we found road ramps. At only eight miles an hour I really hurt myself going over them so much that we had to return to the cottage in Whitby.

The trip to Yorkshire was for me to convalesce, which I was doing until my visit to Malton. I wondered if anyone else feels that the road ramps in Market Street are too high? I know ramps are meant to stop bad use of the roads, but these are too much. No one wants anyone to criticise their town or where they live, of course they don’t.

I so much wanted to visit Malton, so this is not a criticism. I had one of my famous lists, shopping, gift buying and food to take home with us. We always take back with us as much of Yorkshire as our car can hold. Your Yorkshire tea, bread, veg, fruit, meat, fish and cakes – you name it, it travels back with us. Yorkshire biscuits and tea are put away for Christmas morning.

Has anyone else had a similar experience in Market Street and is there anywhere where you can park without going over any road ramps because I still want to visit Malton?

At the time off the incident we spoke to the staff in the Gazette office in Malton. Everyone there was really good to us and I would like to say thank you to them.
