Guy Raines’ letter, “Badger Cull Facts” Gazette & Herald October 15, was full of statistics, percentages and other vital information, but was most informative because of the facts that were missing.
Perhaps Mr Raines can tell us how many slaughtered badgers have tested positive for TB?
Why has the figure for infected cattle fallen from over 39,000 in 2008 to 32,000 last year? A fall of 15 per cent without a Conservative Party/NFU war against badgers.
Why did the number of cases rocket after movement restrictions on cattle were relaxed after the foot-and-mouth epidemic?
Finally, can Mr Raines explain why the plight of 32,000 diseased cattle is deemed far more important than the slaughter of 2,600,000 perfectly healthy cattle every year in this country? Some, male dairy calves, for example, are killed at a few hours old.
