MY colleagues here at Malton and I, and other members of the public, are absolutely appalled by the low water level created by the “trial” of lowering the river levels by the Environment Agency. I noticed it during my walk to work on Monday.

It has created an eyesore compared to a normal flowing river, but most importantly it has had an effect on current wildlife with the exposure of all the rubbish.

I feel immediate attention needs to happen regarding the waste, shopping trolleys, bikes, beer barrels etc.

This needs to be removed as soon as possible before the water is brought back up to normal levels after the trial.

No consideration to wildlife has been thought of. What has happened to the two families of swans on the river we have been watching over the past five months and all the otters that have made a comeback? Someone needs to be held accountable for this at the Environment Agency.

Please clear the river of junk then return the level back for the wildlife.

I have written to Ryedale District Council’s Street Scene department and hope it will be brought to the attention of the town council and councillors.

A complaint will also be made to the national Environment Agency.
