OVER the years I have always enjoyed reading the letters page of Gazette & Herald. Views are expressed, some with which I agree, others that are totally alien to me, but last week Mike Kitching expressed an opinion that simply is utterly futile and pointless.
As the Jack Berry Rehabilitation Centre is well on the way to being constructed at Old Malton he feels that, in his opinion, it is being built in the wrong place.
He throws in a few spurious facts. How he arrives at his figure of 31 per cent of jockeys living in the Malton area I cannot imagine? Thirty-one per cent of what? – all British-based jockeys, Northern jockeys, Yorkshire jockeys?
A great deal of thought and deliberation went into the decision of where this much needed-facility was to be built in the North of England, and Mr Kitching’s diatribe seems, to me, to smack of the NIMBY factor – it is to be welcomed, but not in his neighbourhood.
