I WAS appalled when recently I visited our local recycling centre in Showfield Lane, Malton, and I was expected to pay £7.50 to dispose of 20 bricks.
Are we not encouraged to recycle? Are these places there to discourage fly-tipping? Are these places there so we recycle properly and not hide stuff that should not be in the green bin for landfill?
I understand a builder cannot keep returning with van loads of rubble. What’s your opinion and who is right?
A lot have households have paid an extra £10 for the brown bin green waste, now we are asked to pay for the disposal of rubble. What next? Can rubble not be recycled?
I know firms are making good money out of it and I know skip companies would leave skips at recycle centres and take this away. What is the reason? Has the council got greedy, are we expected to make up a deficit, or are people just daft enough to pay?
I can see before long the people who don’t have brown bins any more will be expected to pay to get rid of garden waste.
I would love to hear your opinion and your readers’ opinions.
