ON a pleasant summer evening at a campsite set around a chateau in rural Normandy, in France, the Malton School Soul Band, Jazz Band and Glee Club performed in front of campers and caravanners from across Europe as well as local people.

The music was fantastic.

When first we had seen a notice in the washing-up room announcing their concert, we were disbelieving that the band we had seen a few weeks earlier at the Malton Show would be on stage in France where we were on holiday.

The audience saw a talented group of young people clearly enjoying every minute and accompanied by teaching staff brimming with enthusiasm.

They made splendid ambassadors for Yorkshire and, indeed, for the UK.
