The readers miss nothing. I recently wrote to local newspapers across the country explaining that an internet radio station would soon be running a programme broadcasting stories of those who served in the Royal Navy, and would love to meet up again with their old shipmates.

We are looking for people who served on HMS Ocean, the Shore Base HMS Collingwood, HMS Relentless and many more, with some lovely stories.

The project is being run by Angel Radio Isle of Wight, which is also transmitting via angelradioisleof wight.moonfruit.com.

We would like to transmit any “Lamp Swinging” stories and reunite shipmates no matter where they are in the world.

Email your story, complete with name of the person you are looking for, the ship or shore base and the dates to mike.crowe1@btinternet.com or write to Mike Crowe, Angel Radio Sailors, 7 Heath Road, Sandown, Isle of Wight, PO36 8PG.

Linked to each story will be a piece of music of the time, just to turn the clock back completely.

Thank you local newspapers, the power of the local press is quite amazing, I think that some readers “read the print off” their local paper, making sure they miss nothing.
