RE: High Malton Housing Plan. As reported in your columns, pleased as we are for the home owners of Middlecave Road that the managing surveyor of Fitzwilliam Estates is ensuring only 10 per cent of traffic is generated through their estate, we strongly object to the 90 per cent being added to the already large volume of traffic using Castle Howard Road.

As home and car owners in Hollis Court, off Castle Howard Road, we, 30-plus car owners, currently find it presents difficulties when attempting to gain vehicular entry to Castle Howard Road as, in many instances, oncoming cars are not always complying with the speed limit.

If, as reported 500 homes are to be built, do the planners consider we are naïve in thinking, only an additional 500 cars will add to the congestion.

The envisaged “larger” family homes could, in our opinion, have at least two to three cars.

Finally, we also find some difficulty in accepting the statement of Tobias Burckhardt, managing surveyor “the new housing fits well within the existing road and community infrastructure”. Subsequently, we shall be registering our objections to Ryedale District Council for the congestion, which an additional several hundred cars will create.
