I JUST wanted to follow up on my letter published in the Gazette & Herald on February 19 regarding a young homeless man and his dog.
I had a brilliant response from lots of people.
A kind gentleman wrote a letter to the Gazette’s sister paper The Press with his experiences of helping homeless people, which I was quite saddened by because he was scammed by some.
I realise the need to be very cautious when trying to help people and I am sure it is very difficult to establish who is actually in need and who is not. I just hope the unfortunate experiences this reader had will not deter people from helping when possible.
I also had a very kind lady from Malton who wanted to help the young man and his dog by way of donating money.
I will use her very generous contribution to buy food for him and his dog which am sure will be hugely appreciated.
