On Wednesday, January 8, Sean McClarron, master of the Derwent Hunt, was quoted in the Gazette & Herald, saying of the public: “We welcome them to see it (hunting) for themselves”.
Twenty-four hours earlier, the Derwent had made an unwelcome intrusion on to my land. Quite how that fits with hunting a false trail only Mr McClarron can explain.
Unfortunately, I was not at home when he called to try to explain it. Mr McClarron may like to explain why.
If anyone is welcome to see what the hunt does, neither the Derwent nor any of Ryedale’s other hunts advertise the meets in the Gazette.
Yet when it was legal for them to hunt foxes, half a dozen used to advertise.
