A TEAM of volunteers and staff at the Yorkshire Arboretum have taken part in a planting extravaganza.

About 40 people pitched in to plant more than 25,000 bulbs in two days at the arboretum, near Castle Howard.

Yorkshire Arboretum director John Grimshaw said the team was already looking forward to seeing the efforts in bloom next spring.

“Planting 25,000 bulbs in two days is an amazing achievement and we’re very grateful to all the volunteers and staff who gave their time,” he said.

“I’m already looking forward to next spring when we’ll see the first results of all this hard work.”

A wide range of bulbs from crocuses and daffodils were planted along with camassias and purple alliums.

The Yorkshire Arboretum, near Castle Howard, is open from 10am to 4pm every day from March to November with the extended opening hours until 6pm at weekends from May to October.
