A RARELY-seen chapel will be open to the public on Saturday.

Walkers have to trek nearly an hour to reach the chapel, which was built by sculptor John Bunting, who taught art at the abbey’s college, and pays tribute to former pupils who fought in the Second World War.

The chapel contains sculptures made by Mr Bunting.

The site is near Oldstead, which was formerly called Scots Corner because the Scots defeated the English at The Battle of Byland in 1322.
