HELMSLEY may be in line for a share of a £600,000, which has been made available to mark next year’s 800th celebrations of the anniversary of the Magna Carta.
The town is one of a handful direct links with the Greater Charter of the Liberties of England, through Robert de Ross, the town’s baron at the time.
Councillor Martin Vander Weyer, who is leading the celebrations in Helmsley, said the Magna Carta Barons Association was awaiting a decision on the bid, which would fund events in June 2015.
