POLICE chiefs will put their plans for a new headquarters on the edge of a North Yorkshire village on show later this month.

North Yorkshire Police is planning to move from its current Newby Wiske base to a new HQ at South Kilvington, near Thirsk, which would also have a ten-cell custody suite and is designed to save the force £455,000 a year.

Members of the project team will attend a drop-in event at South Kilvington Primary School between 2pm and 8pm on February 18 to discuss the proposals for the 8.5-acre site.

Police and crime commissioner Julia Mulligan said: “This is the first of many opportunities residents will get to feed back their views and influence the design of any proposals we may put forward.

“If we decide to submit a planning application – and this is not a done deal – the feedback will be published beforehand and we will make it clear how the proposals have altered as a result of consultation.”
