Councillor-cutting plans put forward

PLANS to reduce the number of district councillors in Hambleton have moved forward.

The authority’s full council meeting has submitted plans to reduce the number of wards by almost 50 per cent, from 30 to 17.

Three councillors would be allocated to the more heavily populated wards, one for the smallest.

The Boundary Commission has agreed in principle to recommendations to cut the number of councillors from the current 44 to 28. It is currently consulting on the proposals.
