A TEENAGE driver and a motorcylist died in two separate crashes on roads in North and East Yorkshire.
The teenager was killed when his car was involved in a crash with a lorry on a rural North Yorkshire road.
The incident happened on the A168 south of Northallerton at 5.45am yesterday. North Yorkshire Police said the 19-year-old man, who was driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa, died at the scene.
A police spokesman said: “The collision involved a coal lorry heading south out of Northallerton and a silver Vauxhall Corsa travelling in the opposite direction.
“As a result of the collision the 19-year-old man, from the Thirsk area, driving the Corsa suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“The 51-year-old man from Heage, Derbyshire, who was driving the lorry was not injured.”
Traffic Sergeant John Lumbard, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, appealed for witnesses.
He said: “If you saw either of the vehicles involved in the collision prior to the incident I ask that you contact the police as soon as possible.”
The road, about two miles south of Northallerton, was closed for five hours yesterday morning as crash scene investigators worked at the site of the tragedy. Diversions were set up on the A19 and A684.
Anyone who can help with the investigation is asked to phone North Yorkshire Police on 101. Alternatively, information can be emailed to des.mooney@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
Meanwhile, police have appealed for witnesses after a 34-year-old motorcyclist died in a three-vehicle crash in East Yorkshire on Monday.
The rider, on a blue Honda motorcycle was travelling along the A614 from Howden in the direction of Middleton-on-the-Wolds, when he was believed to have lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a silver Toyota Rav which was travelling in the opposite direction.
The motorcycle then collided with a blue Ford Focus, also travelling in the opposite direction.
The victim, who has yet to be named, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are now appealing for witnesses following the crash, which happened on the A164 outside Middlethorpe Farm at Market Weighton at about 6.55pm on Monday.
A stretch of the road was closed for about five hours following the incident.
Any witnesses should phone Humberside Police on 101.
