‘Wildlife oasis’ plan for Northallerton

NEGLECTED patches of land in a North Yorkshire town have been marked out as possible sites for wildlife spaces.

The Northallerton Environmental Enhancement Initiative has selected several areas of the town as long-term biodiversity projects, including a five-acre area of land in Yafforth Road.

It is also in talks with a private landowner about turning the area behind the town centre’s Holland & Barrett store into a “wildlife oasis”.

Project leader Doug Doherty said: “These are not ‘here today, gone tomorrow projects’ – they are very much meant to be a legacy.”
