Man seriously hurt in balcony plunge

A MAN has suffered serious injuries after falling from the balcony of a pub in North Yorkshire.

Police have appealed for witnesses after the man, believed to be from the Langley area of County Durham, fell from the balcony of the Wetherspoons pub in Thirsk Market Place at about 3.45pm on Saturday.

The 45-year-old man sustained serious head injuries in the fall, and was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough where he remains in a critical, but stable, condition.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the pub was busy at the time of the incident, and they would like to speak to anyone who had been in the area at the time.

Anyone with information is asked to phone North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Sergeant Simon Hepburn.
