£20m vision for care of the elderly
9:20am Saturday 21st April 2012 in Hambleton news
MORE than £20 million could be spent on new elderly care facilities in Thirsk.
The scheme would involve replacing an existing old people’s home with a larger extra care development, while a health centre to replace the town’s community hospital could be built alongside a community library.
North Yorkshire County Council says the project was “a once-in-a-generation opportunity” which would provide “state-of-the-art accommodation” for more than 175 elderly people in Thirsk and Sowerby.
The authority is working on the plans in partnership with national housing association Housing 21 and regeneration firm Keepmoat.
