A TEENAGER who broke a window of the Black Lion pub in Thirsk on New Year's Eve was arrested by police after they tracked him down through a footprint from his trainers, magistrates were told.
Joseph Brown, 18, of York, admitted criminal damage when he appeared at Northallerton court.
His friend, 21-year-old Thomas McDowell, of Topcliffe, near Thirsk, admitted being drunk and disorderly after he went to the police station to protest about his friend being detained.
Both were given six-month conditional discharges. Defending McDowell, Rob Hutchinson said his client had a chequered history after being sentenced to two years in prison in 2013 for drugs offences, but following his release had kept his head down and had been working but that night he had taken exception to his friend being arrested.
Nick Woodhouse, defending Brown, said his client had never been in trouble previously but he had insisted he took responsibility for what he had done. McDowell was ordered to pay £100 in fines and costs and Brown £180 in fines and compensation.
