A CHARITY group that fundraises and maintains recreation spaces in a village has said it must attract new trustees or disband.

The Brompton Recreation Association has looked after recreation spaces in the village, near Northallerton, for the last 25 years.

But trustees are down to an all-time low as members struggle to retain a solid number of dedicated people to keep it going.

Acting chairman Robert Carter, who has been a trustee of the charity for about eight years, said he hopes to stand down next year.

He said: “There are currently three trustees left but all want to stand down to do other things.

“We need about 10 trustees to keep the charity going.”

The group is holding a special general meeting on Monday, December 1 at 7pm at the pavilion on the recreation field to try to recruit new trustees.

Mr Carter said: “It will be very disappointing if the charity has to disband.

“We were able to have the pavilion built about five years ago with the help of the Football Foundation, which provided 81 per cent of the funding.

“We look after land that is sub-let to Brompton Parish Council by Hambleton District Council, including the car park and adventure playground.

“If the group disbands the recreation ground will remain in some form but we don’t know how safe its future will be.”
