TWO young television star vets have met the family of their idol.

Students Judy Puddifoot and Elly Berry have been studying for four years at the Royal Veterinary College and are finally putting their textbooks to one side to get hands-on experience as part of BBC2's Young Vets.

Jim Wight and Rosie Page - son and daughter of Alf Wight - better known by his pseudonym, James Herriot - met the pair during their visit to the World of James Herriot, in Thirsk.

The vets were given a guided tour of the centre and met its new mascot, Herriot, before exploring Herriot Country.

Ian Ashton, World of James Herriot managing director, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Judy and Elly who, along with their colleagues in the Young vets series, set a fine example of what we are hoping to inspire with our recently launched James Herriot Statue and Legacy Fund, an initiative to encourage people interested in animal welfare and veterinary work inspired by James Herriot."
