A CARNIVAL spirit took over Northallerton High Street today (July 13) for the annual fun family event.
Northallerton Mayor and carnival organiser John Forrest said visitors had told him it had been the best carnival yet.
“It has been a marvellous day. The marching band was definitely a highlight and I’ve invited them to come back next year, when I hope we will have three or four more.
“We have had entertainment from AJ Academy dancers, band Rock 'n' Rose and Crash Bang Wallop, as well as a demonstration from Gemma Magnusson, the world’s strongest woman.
“The weather looked a bit doubtful this morning but the afternoon was fine and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.”
Cllr Forrest said he wanted to thank volunteers who helped set up stalls and the stage, stallholders, and members of the public.
The carnival is also a fundraising event for local charities including Herriot Hospice Homecare and the Friarage Hospital’s MRI Scanner Appeal.
