PICKERING Town powered through to the preliminary round of the FA Cup with a three-goal burst after half-time away at Washington. The result was excellent news for promotion-chasing Pikes, and a boost to the Gazette & Herald's campaign to get them eligible for the UniBond League.
Chairman Tony Dunning said: "We did very well, they are a good footballing side with a nice pitch, but we took our chances and that was the difference."
The win brought the club £500, and in the next game against either Selby Town or Pontefract Colls, £1,000 will be at stake.
Dunning added: "We were well supported on Saturday, around 70 or 80 people travelled to the match, everyone was happy and we're all looking forward to the next two games."
He said that the £100 tickets for the club's £5,000 draw were selling well, and more people were joining in the weekly draw too. For more information on either of these fundrasing schemes, see Tony at his butcher's shop on Bridge Street.
