Job vacancy as Kirkbymoorside town clerk takes new role

A RYEDALE town is searching for a new official to help run its affairs.

Kirkbymoorside Town Council wants to recruit a town clerk to work 23 hours a week which includes three hours based in the library.

The move follows the resignation of assistant town clerk Roger Gibbeson who has been offered a full-time job with a firm in Leeds.

The council’s staffing committee recommended there should in future be just one official.

Mr Gibbeson joined the council in April but recently has also been working part-time for Leeds company.

Mr Gibbeson told the Gazette & Herald the Leeds post was expected to be short-term “but they have now asked me to do the job full time”.

He said: “I am disappointed about leaving the council because I enjoy the work but the Leeds post is something I feel I want to do.”

Town mayor, Coun Chris Dowie, thanked him at Monday’s meeting for his work.

She said: “We knew it may be on the cards when he took the job as assistant clerk.

“We are sorry to see him go as he has been doing a wonderful job and is a very able person but equally we can understand he cannot really turn down this job in Leeds and he is looking forward to a new challenge.”

She added he had agreed to help the council on a voluntary basis and would come back when a new official had been appointed to help them into the job.

Coun Martin Brampton, a former town clerk, agreed to step in on a voluntary basis from October 29 to ensure the necessary procedures were carried out until a new official is appointed.
