A TOWN clock to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee has been unveiled in Norton.

Members of the town council agreed to install the clock as a contribution to the celebrations.

Following discussions over its location, the clock, which cost about £6,000, has been placed on the council chamber in Commercial Street.

Norton mayor Coun Di Keal said the council had wanted to provide something for the town to mark the event.

“As well as planting daffodils in the town, this is our contribution to the Diamond Jubilee,” she said.

“The clock will provide a lasting legacy of this significant year for the people of Norton.”

I saw this earlier in the week whilst stuck in traffic and wondered what it was for. It does look nice, although a bit small - especially for £6000! It also doesn't make me think Diamond Jubilee either. Given that most people have access to the time on watches and mobile phones 24/7, I would question if this is a sensible use of our council tax. Still - at least they didn't get conned into buying a statue off Damien Hirst!

An complete waste of tax payers money, Norton Town Councillors were made aware of public opposition to this gross abuse of public funds prior to approving the expenditure. In a nutshell...More money than sense.
