Volunteers needed to help run cadets in Malton

THE Army Cadet Force (ACF) in Malton is urgently seeking more adult volunteers to support the region’s 1,500 cadets.

As new cadets continue to sign up, the force’s instructors are struggling to keep up with demand and are calling for men and women over the age of 18 to consider volunteering at their local detachment.

Malton cadet detachment is one of 46 across the county urgently requiring support to ensure the cadets from the surrounding area can continue to enjoy weekend camps, adventurous training and parade evenings, in addition to earning qualifications and awards.

Dave Richardson, from the detachment, said: “Being an adult instructor in the ACF is enormously rewarding and a great privilege.

“Besides having the opportunity to play a leading role in the development of young people, it’s also a terrific way to take part in a range of exciting military-orientated pursuits – from training weekends and summer camp holidays, to white-water rafting and rock climbing.”

Colonel Malcolm Render MBE, commandant for Yorkshire North and West Army Cadet Force, said: “The ACF is one of the most prestigious youth organisations in the country.

“Its popularity means we need more adult instructors to lead the cadets and deliver the quality of experiences, adventures and community projects – including the Duke of Edinburgh award – which our cadets enjoy.

“You don’t need any military experience to become an instructor and you can even gain qualifications that will help you in your workplace.

“We’d love to hear from people who are willing to offer their time and enthusiasm to join our ranks as an adult instructor.”
