Survey of housing to be carried out in Slingsby and Burythorpe
11:45am Wednesday 17th October 2012 in News
HOUSING needs surveys are being conducted in two Ryedale parishes to see if there is a need for affordable homes for local people.
The surverys are being carried out in Slingsby and Burythorpe after it was recently highlighted that small village schools face closure if local families and young people do not have access to affordable homes.
Kim Robertshaw, Ryedale District Council’s housing manager, said that although school numbers are falling across Ryedale at the moment, they are forecast to increase in the near future so it was important that village schools remain open.
“Villages face a slow death without local people – both young and old – being able to access affordable housing,” she said.
When housing surveys are undertaken, it is vital that both young and old people in housing need respond by completing the questionnaires. Without this evidence of need, affordable housing schemes which could help keep open community services cannot be developed.
If anyone in Slingsby or Burythorpe parishes is in housing need and wants to remain in their own community, he or she should contact Colin Huby, the Ryedale Rural Housing Enabler at Ryedale House, Housing Services, Malton, YO17 7ZH, for a questionnaire, phone 01653 600666 ext 354 or email colin.huby@ryedale.gov.uk
