New writing group for teenages

TEENAGERS are being invited to join a new group for budding writers.

Aimed at 13-19-year-olds, the group will share stories and look at topics including flash fiction, blogging, poetry and journalism.

Ryedale Youth arts co-ordinator Libby Pearson said she had decided to set up the group after identifying a need for a writing platform for young people in the area.

“We will look at writing stories and forming a plot, characters and length of the piece,” she said.

“The aim will be to create work that can be entered into competitions, both locally and nationally.”

Libby said the group was aimed at everyone and not just those who were looking at a career in writing.

“Writing is a way of self-expression which many young people are looking for,” she said.

“Those joining the group must be prepared to share their work and it is also hoped to bring people in who will talk about their own writing.”

The first meeting of the writing group will take place on Tuesday, November 6 at Malton library, 4pm-6pm.
