TWO Pickering women have returned from a 10-day trek in Nepal to raise funds for a charity which researches premature births.

Jayne Barrow and Adele Baker were among a group of 28 taking part in the challenge through the Himalayas in aid of the Genesis Research Trust.

The pair said the trek, which raised raised £125,000 for the charity, had been far more challenging than originally planned.

“The monsoon season had lasted far longer than usual, and some of the paths we were supposed to be taking were no longer there,” they said.

“At one point we had to abseil down a 100ft drop using tree roots for support.”

Adele and Jayne said they were committed to continuing to raise funds for Genesis after spending time on the trek with one of the research doctors.
