A YOUNG mum has opened a new clothes shop for children in Malton.
Rachel Sawyer, who lives in Norton, felt there was a gap in the market after struggling to find clothing locally for her own youngsters.
The former estate agent took part in a Prince’s Trust enterprise course before deciding to take the plunge and set up her own business.
Rachel said she had talked to friends and found they were also travelling out of town to buy clothes for their children.
“I started trading at Malton Market and that was so successful I decided to seize the opportunity and set up a shop in the town,” she said.
“I had people coming to the door before the shop even opened and there has been a really positive response in the first week.”
Tots2Teens, in Finkle Street, caters for a wide range of ages with clothing for premature babies right up to age 16.
Rachel said: “As well as general clothing, Tots2Teens will also sell footwear, hair accessories, jewellery, bedding, cot bedding sets, bags and much more.
“The shop is pram-friendly and there will be an indoor and eventually an outdoor play area for children to make shopping enjoyable for children and parents alike.”
Rachel will continue to receive support from The Prince’s Trust which will provide business mentoring for three years.
“I hope people will pop in and see what the shop has to offer,” she said. “I aim to sell items people haven’t been able to buy locally and encourage them to shop in Malton rather than going elsewhere.”
