Golfers charity event wish comes true
11:32am Wednesday 10th October 2012 in News
Organised by local businessmen Adrian Tolhurst and Jamie Hopwood, the event collected £1,100 through donations and sponsorship for When You Wish Upon A Star whose aim is to grant the wishes of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses Players were split into two teams of 16 players – team A for those aged under 33 and team B for the over 33s.
Adrian said: “As the Ryder Cup was on at the weekend we wanted to do something at the golf club and once we came up with the idea it started growing from there.
“We asked other local businesses to get involved with each one sponsoring an advert which was displayed at the golf day.”
Adrian said he came across the charity through his company Direct Imaging Supplies which recycles empty ink cartridges in return for a donation to When You Wish Upon A Star.
The money raised at the golf club will contribute to taking terminally-ill children to Lapland in December.
“I have two children and feel it is a worthy charity to support,” he said. “The event was won by the over 33s and we would like to thank all those who came along on the day and supported the event and provided sponsorship.”
