Jimmy Savile street sign removed from Scarborough

A FOOTHPATH in Scarborough named after Sir Jimmy Savile has had its sign removed.

Savile’s View in South Cliff was named in Sir Jimmy’s honour a few weeks ago and plans were announced for a £100,000 statue in tribute to the television and radio presenter who had a holiday home in the resort and who is buried in the town.

But over the weekend, the sign was taken down following a series of child sex abuse claims about the late entertainer. The sign’s removal came as councillors called for the street to be renamed and the statue idea scrapped, as claims of abuse by Sir Jimmy continued to be made.

It was yesterday unclear who removed the sign.
