Mental health trust in running for award

THE region’s largest mental health trust has been shortlisted for a prestigious national health award.

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV), which runs the Princess Road clinic in Malton and the Springwood Unit at Malton Hospital, has made it to the finals of the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards 2012.

The 2012 awards received more than 1,000 entries in 13 categories and TEWV was the only trust in the North East and Yorkshire to be shortlisted in the Provider Trust of the Year category.

This award goes to a NHS trust with high quality, patient-centred care, which uses management and clinical information to drive improvement and involves its patients and the wider local community in shaping services.

Martin Barkley, chief executive of Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Improving people’s lives is at the heart of everything we do and being shortlisted in these awards is a fitting tribute to our staff who work extremely hard to meet the needs of our service users.”

The finalists will be announced at an awards ceremony on November 26.
