Broadband boost for communities
8:04am Wednesday 3rd October 2012 in News
ELEVEN thousand properties in two North Yorkshire communities will be the first to benefit from a scheme to provide pioneering superfast broadband.
North Yorkshire County Council and BT have launched Superfast North Yorkshire, with Amotherby, near Malton, and Ainderby Steeple, near Northallerton, benefiting first from the multi-million pound project, with other rural communities to follow.
North Yorkshire is the first county in the UK to successfully deploy Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) funds, which will be used to extend the roll-out of fibre broadband to areas outside BT’s commercial roll-out to ensure communities do not miss out.
About 365,000 premises in the county will get access to some of the best broadband speeds in the world via Superfast North Yorkshire and BT’s associated commercial roll-out, boosting the competitiveness of local firms and offering a new range of flexible working, entertainment and learning opportunities for local residents.
Fibre broadband benefits include being able to send and receive large amounts of data much more quickly and efficiently.
