Potash mine claim dismissed

EXPERTS have dismissed claims by a campaigner that a potash mine which could be built on the edge of the North York Moors may be unsafe.

Tom Chadwick, chairman of the North York Moors Association (NYMA), had posted a statement on the group’s website, saying problems had been identified around the “provision for emergency winding gear at the site” and talks had been held with the Inspectorate about this.

A representative of the Mines Inspectorate said none of its inspectors had raised concerns over the safety of York Potash’s plans for a minehead shaft on the Moors, near Whitby.
