So an idiot who cycles on a footpath and injures a pensioner over, triggers a banner headline on page 1. This driver who injured four pedestrians, with the capacity to kill and maim, is relegated to
three column inches on page 3.

Then watch out for the motorists who mount the other footpath to squeeze past them. Sure, some cyclists commit acts of selfish and dangerous stupidity - I witnessed an incredible example just this afternoon, as it happens. But there are numerous motorists exhibiting the very same behaviour in York every single day without attracting any notice from the Press. Parking where - for good reasons - they're not permitted to and thereby endangering other road users. Running red lights (saw that today as well, yet again, at Bootham Bar). Overtaking cyclists when there's not enough room to do it safely. Manoeuvring without bothering to indicate.
There's a difference between an accident, which this appears to have been, and a deliberate act of selfish and dangerous stupidity. The cyclist on the pavement was guilty of the latter (as are so many like him). As Pete points out, he also ran away from the consequences of his actions.
It's also worth noting that, as usual in these cases, the wording of the report is "the car mounted the pavement", as if it's Herbie or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and took off all by itself, dragging the passive individual in the driver's seat along with it.

I also note how there are very few comments on here when compared to the cyclists that was on the pavement. Even if there is yet to be an instance where a pavement cyclist hits somebody but stops to help, I bet my bottom dollar it gets much more column space (probably even front page) and certainly more comments than this article has done.
