Inter-town buses to come under spotlight

MORE research is to be done to see how bus services from Kirkbymoorside could be improved.

The town’s Environment Group transport team is to ask the town council for funds to help meet the cost of the research.

Helen Grundy of the group told the town council on Monday: “What we want to do is some research into how other rural communities similar to us manage their transport needs.”

Because of public spending cuts, North Yorkshire County Council does not want to fund extra services so other means have to be found.

She explained that members of the transport team and Northern Ryedale Public Transport Group meet three times a year to try to resolve transport issues and improve services.

One example is that many people would like to see an improved service to Malton which is, effectively, a hub for going on to other places and those seeking work elsewhere would like to see more regular services.
