YOUNG people are being given the chance to plan early for their future careers, thanks to an event organised by Ryedale District Council, NYBEP Ltd and Derwent Training.

Opportunity Knocks gives Ryedale pupils from Year 9 to Year 13 chance to interact with local businesses to help to raise their awareness about career opportunities available.

The event is being organised by the Ryedale Work and Skills Partnership and this year will be held at Lady Lumley’s School on Tuesday, November 13, 5pm-7pm.

A booklet will be provided for all students, giving details of each company including information about what they do and how they work. The students will spend time at each stand during their visit to ensure they actively participate and benefit as much as possible from the day.

Coun Keith Knaggs , leader of Ryedale District Council, said: “Every discussion with business people in Ryedale reverts to skills, apprenticeships and employment for young people.

“Opportunity Knocks is Ryedale District Council’s flagship event, helped by our valuable partners, in trying to provide opportunity for all, at a time when it’s most needed.’’ Richard Shaw, managing director of Ellis, Rillington, which is one of the companies attending the event, said: “This is a great opportunity for students to see the wealth of high-quality employers in the region and hopefully focus their attention on some of the options that may be available to them when they leave school.”

NYBEP is a leading education business partnership, which aims to bring together schools, colleges, higher education and business.
