THE LONG service of five volunteers is being celebrated at Age UK’s shop in Helmsley .

Judith Fletcher, Margaret Beaumont, Ann Burnell and Cecelia Briggs have each been with the charity for 15 years, while doyenne of the volunteer team, 80-year-old Rachel Petch is still turning up at the Bridge Street shop five or six days a week, said manager Avril Taylor.

She said: “We have a wonderful volunteer group which does a tremendous job; the money they to help generate through the sale of clothing and bric-a-brac goes to help local elderly people as well as thoses elsewhere in the country.”

In the Ryedale area, Age UK, which was formerly Help the Aged and Age Concern, provides community grants for OAP clubs, visits lonely people and helps with such things as personal alarm systems and help in the home.
