Watermark Café in Scarborough wins top coffee title

THE Watermark Café in Scarborough has won the Coffee Shop of the Year title in the first awards run by coffee roasting company Lincoln & York.

The café beat 65 independent coffee shops to win £3,000 of vouchers to spend with the distributor which nominated it.

Gillian Partridge, who co-owns the café with Peter Johnson, said: “Small coffee shops are sometimes overlooked and it’s brilliant that there is an award especially for our market.

“We’re planning to invest the money back into the business; we’ve been planning to extend the shop so that we can seat more customers and with our prize we can now look to add two more coffee machines so we can serve more great coffee.”

James Sweeting, director and co-founder of Lincoln & York, said the Watermark Café had shown a consistently high standard, with its latte being the best he had had in a long time.

The Fresh Food Deli in Pocklington, owned by Annette Blanchard, was also one of three finalists and won two places on a City & Guilds barista course.
