Masked men carry out baseball bat burglary in Scarborough

TWO balaclava-masked burglars attacked a former soldier with a baseball bat in a “nasty and brutal” raid on his North Yorkshire home.

The 43-year-old victim suffered broken ribs, a broken nose, damaged lung, perforated eardrum and various cuts and bruises in the burglary on his own home on Nelson Street, Scarborough, at about 9.30pm on Monday September 10.

Two men wearing balaclavas burst into the house and attacked the victim before stealing various items and then fleeing the scene on foot.

The victim managed to attract a neighbour’s attention by calling for help.

He was taken to Scarborough Hospital by ambulance where he received treatment for his various injuries. He was discharged from hospital on Friday.

Detective Constable Matt Collins, of Scarborough CID, said: “This was a very nasty and brutal incident which could so easily have resulted in fatal injuries.

“The sooner the two offenders are arrested and brought to justice the better for all concerned, not least for the victim who has only just been discharged from hospital.

“I am appealing to anyone who can help to identify the two suspects to come forward without delay.”

Any witnesses should contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
