MP highlights fuel headache for police
7:57am Monday 24th September 2012 in News
CONCERNS over how rises in fuel prices are affecting emergency services have been raised by a North Yorkshire MP.
Anne McIntosh , who represents the Thirsk and Malton constituency, said North Yorkshire Police had revealed that an increase of 1p a litre would leave them with an additional cost of about £14,280 a year, based on current mileage rates.
“This information highlights the pressure public services are under with increased fuel costs,” said Ms McIntosh.
“The same standard of service is expected from the emergency services. This is putting very real pressure on delivering public services in rural areas. I am carrying out a sustained campaign against high fuel costs and am in favour of a remote rural fuel duty rebate to get the best possible deal for those living in my constituency.”
